Eating aside, perhaps the most prized of sand beach mollusks is the olive snail. Traditionally gathered by coastal tribes and transformed into bead necklaces, bracelets, and other regalia, olive shells represent beauty and abundance. Olive shell necklaces have been found in eastern Washington archaeology digs dating back over 9,000 years. The value and cultural importance of olive snails continues today.
